How to apply
If you do not wish to be represented by a collective, an application can be filed with the Copyright Board to designate a collective to process your claim.
Mail: Gilles McDougall, General Secretary, Copyright Board of Canada, Suite 800 - 56 Sparks Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0C9
E-mail: [email protected]
Your application to the Copyright Board should include the following information:
- Name and address
- E-mail address
- Telephone number
- Identification of the recorded musical work(s) for which a claim is being made
- Identification of type of rights holder:
- songwriter/composer
- music publisher
- recording artist or musician
- maker of sound recording
- Confirmation that you meet the eligibility criteria in the Copyright Act (not required for songwriters, composers and music publishers)
In accordance with paragraph 83(11) of the Copyright Act, claims for unrepresented rights holders will be processed in the same manner as claims submitted by represented rights holders. The payment of the claim will be based on whether the musical work appears in the sales and airplay databases used by the collective societies and will be calculated using the same methodology as that used for represented rights holders. You will be charged the same administration fees as rights holders that are represented by the collective that processes your payment.
